Weddin Muster canters into town for the week-long event

As the sun was starting to rise in the sky on Monday morning the Grenfell Showground was a hive of activity with organisers getting ready for the first Weddin Muster ride for 2019.

Horses, riders and organisers were saddling up, warming up and getting ready to hit the trail for the first of five days of fun in the saddle and sun.

Riders travelled from across the state to take part in the annual event.

"It's a great way to spend the school holidays," one rider said, travelling to Grenfell to take part in the Muster with their daughter. "We get to be outside, on our horses and meeting new people, it is fantastic."

Weddin Muster secretary Rebecca Maslin is due to give birth at any moment, however it hasn't slowed her down in organising and helping to run the annual event with Bec imparting some words of wisdom to the riders before they left for their first trail of the event.

Locals who could hear the sounds of hooves hitting the bitumen were out in their front gardens to wave and watch the horses and riders as they headed out for their first trek which took them on a 27km journey around the Eualdrie area.

On Tuesday the group embarked on the 25km Adelargo ride. On Wednesday the most popular ride of the Muster for both locals and those in the saddle is the 10km long Town Ride. The horse and rider combos will be trekking in and around town for the fun little ride that marks the halfway mark of the Muster. On Thursday the Muster will take participants on a 24km tour of the region along the Quandong Ride before the final trail of the event on Friday which will have riders in the saddle for 23km along the Bogolong Ride.
