Grenfell’s Mustering History

This article, by Albert ‘Prince’ Wood, was written for the ‘Back to Grenfell’ event in 1924 and provides an interesting account of wild horse mustering conducted in the Grenfell district in the early days.

The muster involved a coordinated effort from all the local stations and usually lasted a week. The courageous horsemen mustered over a thousand horses including ‘tailers’ at pace through thick scrub.

It is by pure coincidence that Grenfell now runs the week-long Weddin Mountain Muster, under very different conditions. How great is it to have this history that we can fantasise about as we amble along on our horses?
